This is possibly the most beautiful Peter Pauper Journal I've seen....and Peter Pauper Press has so many fabulous covers.The hardcover has a opulent, regal gold design printed on a black background which is a reproduction of a design of 1905. It just dazzles my eyes with its richness. The design is pressed into the cover and has an embossed feel. All 3 edges of the paper are gilded with a bright gold.The "jewels" are faux and are part of the printed design. I prefer that they are not actual 3D embellishments that would make it difficult to slide into a bookcase or with protrusions that could press marks into other books. These "jewels" appear authentic and beg for a touch just to make sure they are actually faux.Inside is high quality writing paper-very smooth to the touch. The paper color is soft cream with pale gray lines - someone with poor vision may have difficulty seeing the lines although it is just enough to guide my handwriting without taking over the appearance of the page. My journal has a black ribbon bookmarker. Inside covers have gold colored paper that is not gilded....just quietly elegant to complement the outside cover. No pockets.I am grateful that Peter Pauper makes affordable journals for us, as other companies making beautiful journals tend to be unaffordable. After examining this one, I'll be ordering more for Christmas Gifts.
